This combined series of images taken between 00:00 and 00:04 on August 17th shows the path of Near Earth Asteroid 2002 NY40. This asteroid is passing only 530,000 Km from Earth and is 800 metres in diameter - if it had hit us it would have dug a crater 10Km accross!

Opportunities to view such objects through amateur instruments occur once every 50 years so August 17th was a special day in Yorkshire - especially given that the skies were actually clear for a change.
